I am a promise
I am possibility
I am a promise with a capital “P”
I am great big bundle of potentiality
I am learning to read and write
I am trying to do everything right
And I promise to be the
Very very very best me!
I can go anywhere, just wait and see
I can be anything, I want to be
I can climb mountains
Or cross the wide sea
I am a great promise you see!
I am a promise
I am possibility
I am a promise with a capital “P”
I am great big bundle of potentiality
I am learning to read and write
I am trying to do everything right
And I promise to be the
Very very very best me!
Analysis and Review of the poem by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia.
A beautiful poem written by Kindergarten Kiosk to centers the affirmation of one’s identity, potentials and gifts. It showcase the lens/ perception through which the speaker see himself. The proclamation of these positive words is what makes the poem relevant to our community especially to this generation. To people that struggling with low-self esteem and pessimism. The poem becomes a voice
an awareness about the potentials, greatness, possibility, value, zeal and creativity.
I love how the speaker started the poem, with the phrase “I am a promise” which form the title of the poem. The first stanza and the third stanza are the same, bringing about repetition, a poetic device applied in the poem. Other figurative speech used in the poem are alliteration (Very very very best me!), metaphor (I am possibility), and there is use of repetition of words like great, I am, I can, etc. This is a simple poem of twenty one line with three stanzas. The tone of the speaker is agile and lively, resonating in the mind of the readers. The language used in the poem is simple and narrative in nature, making it easy for readers to understand.
Finally, the poem successfully delivers an important message to its audience to act the same and see themselves from a brighter side, professing the goodness inside and his intentions to become the best become the best version of himself. This captures the power of spoken words over one’s lives.
