Dream big for what is to come
Hope big for those who need it most
Love big for just your self and one more
As all in this world to every day
The stars see out into the world
Every dream at night, they remember
Everything you wish upon them, while young
They are the ones to make it true
The dreams you dream every night
Cannot be hidden in the morning early light.
Your dream catcher watches with great fascination
As you wake, with this new dreaming sensation
Everything seems new and different
From the views you learned in your dream, last night
Yet nothing really manages to change
As the ache you feel comes around, hoping that maybe, something will be new
The dream you had last night, is one of pure delight
Or possibly it had only fright. Maybe it was a dream of nothingness
Of the change that you dare not make, or do you?
Dream big, Hope big, Love big
For when you do,
Who knows,
It may come true
Analysis and Review of the poem by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia.
A beautiful poem titled “Dream Big” written by Jessica Millsaps. A poem of five stanzas written in a narrative form. The title of the poem suggest the theme. The tone of the poem is inspiring, building a sense of value in mind of its readers. The language is simple and instructive. The poet employed the use of repetition, repetition of the word “dream”, “big”, “night”, etc, in the poem to create rhythm. There are other poetic devices used in the poem include; Apostrophes, Assonance, metaphor, Hyperbole, Personification, etc.
The poet started the first three of the poem inspiring affirmative words that says; Dream big, Hope big, Love big. The emphasis on the “big”, to show there is more to what we have/know now. Stanza speak of the possibilities of dream coming true. Our wishes becoming our reality and need to hold on to our dream/desires/ wishes.
The next stanza has a rhyme scheme of aa bb. That stanza talk about chances of our dream coming true with time. The stanza mentioned “dream catcher” an ideal character that see to bring makes every dream come true.
Stanza four open up a sad reality of life. The feeling of woking up to the truth that things are same as old and nothing new happened. The speaker tone become sad and emotional in the fourth stanza. Here, the readers are caught up in between, understanding that the speaker dream have not yet been achieved.
The last stanza used “maybe” the kind of dream we carry with in us and the possibilities of the making that dream come true, however, it is dependent on us to keep our dream alive and make it come true. The poet closed the poem with an advised, that we should dream big, love big, and hope big cos if it might come true.
To young people out there, learn to dream big. Don’t be afraid to have big dream and make big plans, don’t limit yourself, there is every possibility that dream come true. That should be our mindset.
