A true friend is always there for you.
A true friend will help you no matter the problem.
A true friend is like a sister, she knows you better, than you know yourself.
A true friend is someone who knows when you're sad, and can cheer you up when you need it most.
A true friend is someone that can make you laugh no matter what they say or do.
A true friend is someone who believes in you.
A true friend will stick by your side.
A true friend is someone you can call just if you need a shoulder to lean on.
But most of all a true friend will never leave you.
Analysis/ Review of the poem.
Let look into the analysis of the poem.
This is a short poem of one stanza written by Brandi Young on friendship. A simple narrative poem with no rhyme scheme. The poet language is simple and her tone is friendly. Looking at the poem, the theme revolve around what I true friendship means and what it stand for. The poet brought in the ideal friendships which is true and pure to teach youths or young people the essence and value of having a true friend.
In this review of the poem, the poet simply express on her thought on what a true friend does and what is expected. Using a feminine gender, she made a comparison of what a true friend represent in line three (A true friend is like a sister, she knows). The poet talked about the sacrifice and help a true friend renders and how their present is significant. She emphasied on how a true friend make her friend laugh, providing a space of comfort and happiness in their lives and as well they become a shoulder to lean on, where their friends is facing hardship. To me, I think that is the most crucial part of friendship. Not just friendship that seem in good times but also in hard and difficult times. This what we all need in life because life is filled with hills and Valley (good days and bad days) and I believe true friendship is proven in our worst days. Just like the poet said in line four (A true friend is someone who knows when you're sad, and can cheer you up when you need it most).
I must admit, the poet ended the poem beautifully by saying “But most of all a true friend will never leave you”. This shows the unbreakable bond that exist in true friendship, no what happens. This is a friendship that stand the test of time. It is natural that, as human we engage in social conflict with one another due to our differences and preferences in life, however, one should understand what defines our friendship is not our differences, mistakes, conflict but the bond and love.
One of the poetic device used in the poem is “Repetition”. The constant repetition of the phrase “A true Friend” which point to the title of the poem and depict the theme. It was repeated. Another poetic device used in the poem is “Simile” in line three to compare or depict what a true friend is like, using the word like “A true friend is like a sister, she knows you better, than you know yourself ”.
