The theme of the poem centered on the concept of God to men. the source of life itself. It is centered on the attributes of God. It points out the fact that God is indescribable using the words foreseen and coined by men to explain what is inexplainable based on things we point him to. Many things happen and you realize they are not rational but irrational and God is something that is irrational and inexplainable as we are limited by words.
One of the lines that captures the theme of the poem is Line 5 of Stanza 6: “the unknown that knowest the known” which means that in him lies the depth of knowledge. Nothing is new to him. This is why he is called the Omniscience.
Also, another line that captures the theme of the poem is Line 6 of stanza 2 “The presence that set men on quest” It explores the fact that we believe in God but can’t explain him. It points out that the God factor is a Mystery and it’s only discovered when we find ourselves.
The poet concludes with the fact that it all starts and ends with God as we see from line 3 “The enigma of everything in between“ and also from the last line “The first and last to call my name”. God is everything.
