“Save your tears”, for I am paradoxical
My head in the cloud cos I don't fit into crowd
seeing shades of me elapsed into the world's mind
So I grew numb in the mud of misconceptions
Oh! It make me a Renaissance; a Renaissance!
This is the outcry of my beauty.
“Save your life” for I am magical
My light blinds the eyes of thousand stars
And I didn't get here on loose words
Cos I’ve waded through waters and wars
Oh! it makes me a Believer; a Believer!
For this is who I am.
Analysis
A short poem of 12 line with two stanza, written by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia. The poem is simply a reflection of the poets thoughts about people lives, personialities, and the world we lives in. Starting with first line, the writer made clear bold statement, that is “save your tears”, showing a sign that there is no need for sympathy and empathy for someone who is having dual /opposite personalities. She called herself a walking contradiction, which makes her unique and different from the rest of her circle. That's why in line 2, she put it out “head in the cloud cos I don't fit into crowd”. The interesting thing of this poem is that she made the feeling of isolation as something that come with peace. So detachment should not be a thing to be worry about, especially in a circle where you presence does not fit in. This should be a moment of reflection on oneself especially in a world full with voices.
The line 3 and 4 centered on the perception of people from a different lens. Using herself as a character that is mirrored in different version which can led to a feeling of being numb. That is, a state of feeling nothing. It is ironically. To her, that the only way to maintain her sanity, not to subject her life to people opinion. In the last two lines of stanza one, she identifies herself as Renaissance, renewal, and rebirth of something of old (the old her) and that's the beauty of her life, which is change (the world will adjust to it).
Stanze two especially depicts a feeling of greatness in this turbulent sea of life and shows how her faith has brought her thoughts far regardless of the obstacles and trials. She said, “I didn't get her on loose words”. She called herself a believer and identity herself as one. The poet try to relates herself to what might also be going on her readers mind. To her, some people might share similar experience with hers.
The poetic device used in this poem are:
1. personification (seen in line 3), “world mind” personifying the world as a human that has a mind. Also seen in line 8, “eyes of the thousand stars”, giving the sky am attribute of a human that can see.
2. Repetition: this occurs in line 1 and line 7. The similar quotation where the poet said “save your…”. It occurred that beginning of each stanza, giving the poem a rthyme.
3. Alliteration: it is seen in 3 (seeing shades…) , line 5 (Renaissance Renaissance) and line 11 (Believer Believer).
