Staring at stars within my palms.
Reading my future like a soothsayer.
Staggering my past in sassy moment.
And all seem to be gone at the last phase.
“So do your chores before the sunset”
“Clap no hands for the lazy phantom”
“Stay awake till freedom calls”
“Say your prayer with your muted words”
“Warm the cold inside your bones”
“Cast your cycle on a lonely road”
Provoke your journey in the World.
Walk now! When the night is still young.
Tell your soul where it belongs.
And steal the memories like bandits.
The night toss its jinx on my knees.
While the day kissed me on the forehead.
Saying “Work the work till it works”
“Get your hands dirty in the mud of future”
“Knit your story with thread of joy”
“Sprinkle the magic on your path”
“Let your footsteps welcome you home”
“Let your voice sing aloud your victory”
For while we live in a listening world.
Speak now! When the night is still young.
Dearest readers, wait for no wait.
For grave grow no green for losers.
And strangers hands out gloves for aid.
Till you water your growth with your blood.
“See you watch the rising of sunshine”
“See you cover the footprint of the moon”
“See you bear the burden of immortal”
“See you write your lessons as blessings”
“See you reset your past with compass”
“See you wear smiles like a loaded gun”
At the end, you will be the envy of world.
Start now! When the night is still young.
Review of this new poem written by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia.
Pen name: I.C Amar.
The review of this poem kicks off with the message to empower youths. The poem of 36 lines comprises of three stanzas each ending with a couplet. It is a narrative poem centred on the need of doing something on time. It explores the truth that one should keep doing what will eventually make them become successful, most especially when it seems nothing is working. The poem urges youths to find themselves when the night is still young than when it is old because there lies the strength of becoming. It encourages youths to see the need of taking life serious by being determined and passionate about fulfilling purpose.
The poet also enjoins the youths to speak and advocate for themselves.
