I've found my silence assassin,
That murdered different version of me.
With the overdose of its sweet venom.
Oh! I've found my own misfortune,
That pardon my silly excuses,
Till I lose sight on what says time.
Why I can't befriend determination?
Even the wind understood the assignment.
Why I can't beseech my consistency?
For the biggest enemy I fight is me.
Yet I'd grew amist my mess and madness,
The me I knew then isn't my final destination.
A remarkable poem written by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia. Pen name: I.C Amar.
A poem that address the dilemma that comes with procrastination, which simply to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done. The poet addressing the issue of delay and procrastinating. This is an interesting poem of 12lines with six stanza each.
In the first stanza, the poet started the poem with an intriguing statement that says “I've found my silence assassin”, referring to procrastination as a killer…
It is company with lazyness and weakness, even when we have the urge to do what is expected of us to do. Procrastination is one of the main barriers blocking you from getting up, making the right decisions and living the dream life you've thought of. The them of the poem strictly advise every young souls out there to kill act of broadcasting before it kill us.
It is quite of unfortunate that we can not fully execute of ideas, plan and goals because we keep giving ourselves thousand excuses and reasons why we should do it later. Why not now? Why can we act immediately? This boiled down to the fact that action speaks louder and words. Success in Life needs action, consistency and determination. Excuses and procrastination depict an act of unseriousness and negelence. Every youths with dreams should understand the importance of acting immediately and be consistent in our plans to produce growth in what we do.
According to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, he stated "While we waste our time hesitating and postponing, life is slipping away." That's why the poet ended her stanza with a similar phrase “Till I lose sight on what says time”. This pinpoints the effect of procrastination. A what that should take two days will take two years to be done. Showing lack of maximization and utilization of time. Such person that procastinate are not efficient and effective and can't consider time management.
I love how the poet started stanza two with question. “Why I can't befriend determination?” showing an acceptance of ones flaws and willingness to make a change. Looking that line 10, “For the biggest enemy I fight is me”, admits that her biggest obstacle/ hindrance in life is herself. I believe, her reader will connect to this truth. Regardless, the poet always used herself (second person pronoun) as a reference point. The poem and its analysis is a general message that surrounds the events of life that happens to her fellow youth. Using herself as a case study to bring about change. This is poem urged every youths to quit procastination and take action and implement our decision.
Finally, the poet concluded her poem with last two lines that says “Yet I'd grew amist my mess and madness, the me I knew then isn't my final destination”. Which shows her ability to attain sucesss despite all that surrounds her. She display her resilience and agility not to give up on herself but to continue till she excel. This ending giving a sense of hope to every youth that want to make a difference in life.
