Count your stars
Time to flip your next page
Count your blessings
Time to say a little prayer
Bear a heart of gratitude
With mind of chess for war
Watch your next step with vision
Match your feet ready for mission
End of year isn’t end of life
Reset the trial you once fail
Learn your lesson at best
You have so much life in you to live
Save your hustle for next season
Make yourself proud before others
Spent time to smile at your mirror
You have all you need to be great
Be the tutor of your future
Be the spark of your success
Be the answer to your puzzle
Be the love of your life each year
Analysis and Review of the poem by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia.
A beautiful poem written by Okoro Amarachi Anastasia about what the end of year should mean for the youths. The poet, explains to us what should be the youth's ideals, goals and mindset. She puts forward that, Youth has the greatest ability and will power to achieve what they want in life. This is a poem of twenty lines, with four stanzas each (that’s quarter). The tone of the speaker is consoling and comforting, speaking into the mind of the youths, with so much zeal and passion, trying to strike a balance and cause a change. The language is a little complex, because the writer used a lot of figurative devices and iambic pentameter in the poem.
The first stanza encourages the youth to show gratitude. To be ready to transition into their next phase of life. End of the years is tells us to be happy for life and opportunity that lies in the future. It’s time to count our blessings and our achievements made so far. Stanza two simply implies that as we show a heart of gratitude, let’s prepare ourselves for what comes next. Let's strategize our mind for the next phase or mission.
The third of the stanza become instructive and rigid. Here, the speaker tell her audience to learn every necessary lessons needed in life and move on. Don't be stuck in regrets, instead learn from it to amend / build your future. Stanza fourth is all about encouragement. The poet encourages us to love ourselves, forgive ourselves, embrace ourselves because all we need to be great in life lies with us. So, we should not underestimate ourselves cos we have the potentials that can help us to be fufil in life.
Finally, the last stanza ended few lines of powerful motivation using the repetition of the words “Be the…” sounding authoritative and instructive to promote a good course and result in the end. I dare youths to BE GREAT.
